This article is for small businesses who use Xero. Add a type to an earnings pay item set up as an allowance so Xero can group allowances when you report them payyroll the Xeor. Set up an earnings pay item with an allowance category. Xero then separates allowances from gross payments on payment summaries and payment summary annual reports. If you add or edit an allowance, you must assign it to one of six types: Car, Transport, Laundry, Meals, Travel or Other.
Xero will use the type to group allowances for reporting purposes. When you add an allowance type to an existing pay item, Xero will apply the change wherever you use the pay item.
This includes past pay runs. Click on the organisation name, select Settingsthen click Payroll settings. Select the Pay Items tab. In Earningsadd a new pay itemor open an existing pay item, lalowance an Allowance earnings category. Xero will identify existing pay items that require an allowance type. Empoyment Typeselect the type that applies to this allowance. Click Add, if you're creating a new pay item, or Save. Post a pay run. Before you file the pay run, Xero will notify you if some allowances need a type.
